Specialized Testing Services
In addition to the extensive listing of assays listed above, HRL provides the following specialized testing:
ISI Assignments
Thromboplastins used in the prothrombin time (PT) test for the
laboratory control of oral anticoagulants must be calibrated against
WHO International Reference thromboplastin Preparations (IRP) to
determine the International Sensitivity Index (ISI) necessary to
convert PT results into international Normalized Ratio (INR).
A recent review of the INR system of reporting PT’s is in June’s
issue of the Journal of thrombosis and haemostasis. (Vol 2, #6,
June 2004).
Two Guidance documents are available regarding this topic.
The CLSI has published document H54-A, “Procedures for Validation
of INR and Local Calibration of PT/INR Systems.” This document is
of benefit to both the manufacture of thromboplastin reagents and
the laboratory.
ISTH subcommittee on the control of anticoagulation has published
“Guidelines on preparation, certification and use of certified
plasmas for ISI calibration and INR determination” in the Journal of
Thrombosis and Hemostasis, 2:11, pages 1867-2084 (Nov).
HRL works with a number of manufacturers of thromboplastins to
assign ISI values against WHO IRP’s before their release to the
marketplace. Please
contact us for more information
on ISI assignments.
Animal Studies
HRL has developed a number of tests to look at different thrombosis
and hemostasis parameters in a variety of animal species.
Please
note that most functional assays can be applied to animal studies.
We are happy to investigate specific customer requirements as
part of our focus on exemplary customer service.
